Materials and Metallurgical Engineering departmental programmes include:

  1. Bachelor of Engineering (BEng)
  2. Post Graduate Diploma (PGD)
  3. Master of Engineering (M.Eng) and
  4. Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D)

 Bachelor of Engineering (BEng)

Applicants seeking admission to Bachelor of Engineering degree must satisfy the following requirements:

  • Minimum five (5) credit passes in not more than two (2) sittings in Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, English Language and any other science subject in SSCE/NECO/NABTEB examinations.
  • Pass the UTME examination in the following subjects: English Language, Physics, Mathematics and Chemistry.

After due process of screening at the Faculty and Departmental offices, the candidate shall be provided with the list of courses for the semester for registration purposes. If it is discovered at anytime that a candidate does not possess any qualification which he/she claims to have obtained, he/she will be expelled from the University.

Upon successful completion, a candidate for this programme shall be awarded Bachelor of Engineering Degree in Metallurgical & Materials Engineering

Postgraduate Diploma (PGD)

Prospective candidates for the Postgraduate Diploma programme must possess any of the following academic qualifications in addition to possessing five O’ level credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and any other science subjects at not more than two sittings:

  1. Higher National Diploma in Metallurgical and Materials Engineering and related disciplines with a minimum of Lower Credit grade from recognized Polytechnic.
  2. Bachelor of Science degree in a related Science discipline with a minimum of Second Class Lower Division from a recognized University.
  3. B.Sc. or B.Eng. in Mechanical Engineering or Metallurgical and Materials Engineering with Third class (Hons) degree from a recognized University.

The duration for Metallurgical and Materials Engineering department’s PGD programme is as follows:

Full time: Minimum of four (4) semesters and a maximum of six (6) semesters

Part time: Minimum of six (6) semesters and a maximum of eight (8) semesters

 Graduation requirement is a minimum pass mark of 50%. Continues assessment (CA) shall constitute not more than 40 % of the course. Any student who fails a course may be permitted to repeat the examination of the course. Any student with Cummulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) below 2.50 at the end of two (2) consecutive semesters shall be withdrawn from programme.

 Upon successful completion, a candidate for this programme shall be awarded Postgraduate Diploma Degree in Metallurgical & Materials Engineering.

 Masters of Engineering (MEng)

Candidates with Bachelor degree in Materials and Metallurgical Engineering with minimum of Second Class Lower Division rating from any recognized University are eligible for admission into this programme (for Candidates with PGD, a minimum CGPA of 3.5 on a 5 point grade scale or equivalent from a recognized University is required).

 Upon successful completion, a candidate for this programme shall be awarded Masters of Engineering Degree in Metallurgical & Materials Engineering.

 MPhil/ Ph.D. Programme

Candidates with a Master’s Degree in Materials and Metallurgical Engineering from any recognized institution, with a final CGPA of at least 3.50 (out of 5.0) or its equivalent (i.e. 60% aggregate) shall qualify for admission into the FUOYE Ph.D. Programme in Materials & Metallurgical Engineering (Candidates with a Master’s Degree in Materials and Metallurgical Engineering from a recognized institution, with final CGPA of between 3.00 to 3.49 (out of 5.0) or its equivalent (55-59% aggregate) shall qualify for admission into the MPhil/ Ph.D. Programme.

Note: M.Phil/Ph.D Conversion Programme

A candidate may be presented for Ph.D conversion examination after the third semester of M.Phil programme (if cumulate score is at least 60%). The conversion examination shall be conducted in accordance with the Postgraduate School regulations. Candidate for the M.Phil/Ph.D. programme may also be required to audit and pass few related M.Eng. Courses (with zero unit) at the discretion of the supervisor with the approval of Departmental postgraduate committee.
