Undergraduate Programme (Regular)
The department has been accredited by the National University Commission (NUC) to run Bachelor of Engineering (B.Eng) degree programme in Materials and Metallurgical Engineering. The period of the completion of the programme is ten (10) semesters and a maximum of fifteen (15) semesters through Uniform Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) and a minimum of eight (8) semesters and maximum of twelve (12) semesters through the Direct Entry route full-time studies. The student must have offered and passed a minimum of 201 credit units of the relevant NUC approved courses, leading the award of Bachelor of Engineering degree that is acceptable for employment and admission to higher degrees.
Undergraduate Programme (Conversion/Top-up)
The university admits students to the department to run Conversion/Top-up programme in Materials and Metallurgical Engineering. The period of the completion of the programme is six (6) semesters through the first degree certificates (HND, BSc, B.Eng) via Direct Entry route full-time studies. The student must have offered and passed a minimum of 201 credit units of the relevant NUC approved courses, leading the award of Bachelor of Engineering degree.
The philosophy is to train students and produce graduates with sound knowledge on Metallurgical and Materials Engineering especially in the following areas: Mineral Processing and Extractive Metallurgy; Physical and Mechanical Metallurgy; Foundry, Surface Coating, Tribology and Corrosion Engineering; Materials development such as Polymer, Ceramics and Composite Engineering.
Aims and Objectives of the programme
- To provide comprehensive education in Materials and Metallurgical Engineering.
- To equip students with the knowledge of basic sciences, engineering for fundamentals and a wide range of general/specialized materials and design topics.
- Provide adequate manpower for the manufacturing industries and research establishments in the areas of materials and metallurgy.

The academic programme is tailored by the teaming combination of seasoned professors, high calibre lecturers, external examiners/academic professionals and collaborations with the industries. In the same vein, practical exposures are handled by professional technologist and craftsmen.
